June 5, 2019 – Weekly Update

Hopefully everyone’s summer is off to a good start.  I’ve been out of touch for a while but have been hearing great things about the team.  The last regatta was clearly a success.  Ft. Pierce is a great venue and 11 of our sailors went to enjoy it.  Everyone of our sailors showed how far they have advanced this year.  Congratulations to Ben who finished second for the series. Also congratulations to Ethan who won a race and to Pia for a couple of impressive starts and high finishes.  I’m really looking forward to seeing everyone continue to develop next year.  Many thanks to Connor, Jack, Paige, Margo and Eric for their dedication and commitment to coaching the team.  The good results are obvious.

Congratulations are also in order for Sailor who successfully completed the US Sailing Level I instructor course and is now a certified instructor. It is very rewarding that our sailors are enjoying the sport to the point where they are proficient enough to successfully complete the course and want to help others learn the sport.

Earlier this week the Mohrmans held an informal sailing session at EGYC.  The notice was short but four boats went out for a really nice afternoon sail. A WhatsApp group has been formed to communicate about other informal sail this summer.  If you are not on the list and want to be, let Connor know and he’ll sign you up.

There are several very good sailing camps this summer at both MYC and EGYC.  Both will be run by Mr. Peter Collins who recently came to the area from Charleston, SC where he developed a large and successful sailing education program.  He brings much experience and enthusiasm so we are very lucky that he his here. If you would like to expand your skills and have fun at the same time or if you have a friend that is interested in learning to sail, Check out at: or contact

The reason I was out of touch for so long is that I spent about a month as a working passenger on a 250′ square rigged  clipper ship from Boston to France.  There will be a presentation about the voyage this Friday 6/7 at 7:00 PM at MYC.  If you are interested in learning more about sailing and living on a big sailing ship, you are welcome to attend.  If you would like to check out the ship beforehand, see
