June 24, 2019 Weekly Update

I hope everyone is having a good summer.  While SCS is inactive during the summer break, some of our sailors are quite active both sailing and helping with sailing education programs. Last week was really active as Thomas attended a Laser sailing camp in Tampa and Jackson helped with sailing camp at MYC. William and Juliette also attended the camp and were very helpful with showing the other campers how to sail.  At the same time, Jimmy is leading the sailing at the EGYC summer camp.  In July EGYC will run a Strictly Sailing camp and Jimmy will be working with that as well. Meanwhile, Elizabeth Johnson, one of our graduates who now sails at Jacksonville University is working at the summer program at the Palm Beach Sailing Club.  By the way JU placed in the top 20 at the recent National Championship Regatta. Jackson has made his annual migration to New Jersey where he will attend several weeks of sailing camp on Barnegat Bay.

Behind the scenes, we are starting to put together the operating plan for next year.  It is in the early stages but there are plans for some growth.  As the plan comes together, it will be shared but a key aspect of the plan is fundraising.  The registration fees pay for only a portion of program so the rest needs to come from outside assistance.  An fundraising event for the fall is in the planning stages but we may have a really good opportunity in the next couple of weeks.  It is not for certain but we may be able to conduct a 50/50 raffle at EGYC’s Fourth of July event. If permission is granted, it would be very nice for some of our sailors to help collect the donations.  The schedule is not known at this time but I suspect there would be a set time frame.  If permission is granted the details will be confirmed and sent out.

Stay tuned for more impromptu sailing this summer.  If you are not on the WhatsApp list, contact Connor so you can be included.
