October 15, 2019 Weekly Update

LThis past weekend, both Saturday and Sunday were beautiful with winds on the lighter side.  Practice on Saturday was well attended and productive.  On Sunday, 15 of our sailors attended the MYC Youth Regatta which was also the Florida East Coast Series Regatta #2.  The practice and home cooking paid off as SCS sailors took the top three places in the 420 class and the top two places in the O’Pen Skiff (formerly BIC) class.  Congratulations to Jackson/Thomas who won all three races by large margins and to Sailor/Gia and Jimmy/Brooke who also made it to to the podium. Katie/Jack M. as well as William/Jack A. had impressive performances in their first 420 regatta.

In the O’Pen Skiff class, it was tight at the top.  Ben won with finishes of 1-1-3 while Ethan posted steadily improving finishes of 3-2-1 to take second, only one point back.  Pia and Kai final scores were only one point apart and Landon, sailing in his first regatta, learned very much and clearly had fun!

We have a very good team spirit.  A great example is in the first race, Ben noticed that Ethan’s outhaul was too tight and told him. After making the adjustment, Ethan’s scores steadily improved to winning the last race, finishing one point behind Ben.

A friend of SCS had a drone out on Sunday to take pictures and videos.  They are editing a video and will provide a link when it is ready.

The next regatta is close to home in Vero Beach on November 10.
