October 28, 2019 Weekly Update

On Saturday, the conditions were very challenging in the morning for the Apollo and Mercury groups then completely deteriorated in the afternoon so that practice was cancelled for Gemini and Artemis.  By Monday, things were quite calm for the Dolphins but as the picture shows, they had plenty of moveable ballast on an Open Skiff just in case the strong wind came back.  Hopefully conditions will between the two extremes for practice next Saturday.

The following weekend will be a busy one.  On Saturday November 9, sailors from both Gemini and Artemis will be sailing on the Mohrman’s Catalina 42 in a 25 mile ocean race off of Ft. Pierce. Then on Sunday November 10 they will be sailing in Florida East Coast Series Regatta #3 in Vero Beach.

Looking further ahead, the SCS End of the Semester Holiday Party will be on December 11 at MYC.  Kara Mathews has just started to plan the event but she always puts together fantastic events so plan to be there.

Speaking of parties, SCS will be hosting a wine and beer tasting fundraising event on November 21 at EGYC from 6:30 -8:30 PM. Lynne Morano, Karen Williams and Edy Williams are organizing a truly elegant evening featuring select wines, craft brews from Intracoastal Brewing and heavy hors d’ oeuvres. There will also be a silent auction Admission tickets will be $75 per person for the entire evening.  To thank those who have made significant donations since July 1, one tickets will be given for those who have donated $500, two for $1,000 and four for $2,000 and up.  All of us at Space Coast Sailing hope that you can join us and help raise the funds needed to continue to grow an improve our program while celebrating the fact that we have been growing youth sailing in South Brevard since 2016.  For information and RSVP, contact Karen Williams at 303-956-6942 or Lynne Morano at 321-223-8876.
