First things first. Tomorrow is the SCS end of the semester Holiday party from 6-8 pm at Melbourne YC. Kara and Lynne are planning a lot of fun activities so hopefully you can make be there. Dinner will be ordered around noon today so if you plan to attend but have not signed up please do so at https://www.evite.com/event/036ECHXYR5DV6YTLMEPKBTHOMTY7PA/rsvp?utm_campaign=send_sharable_link&utm_medium=sharable_invite&utm_source=evitelink.
Saturday the sailing conditions were pretty mellow for the Mercury, Apollo, Gemini and Artemis groups. It was a great day to be on the water and simply enjoy the sport of sailing. The conditions should be pretty close to the same for the Dolphins this morning.
Also this weekend five of our sailors went to the Jr. Olympics in Jensen Beach where conditions were also light except for a squall on Sunday. Thomas and Jackson sailed in the 420 fleet and used a spinnaker for the first time thus adding another dimension to their sailing. Ben, Pia and Ethan sailed in the o’pen skiff fleet. Ben sailed a really good regatta but was undermined by the squall. Nonetheless, he finished 4th overall. Pia and Ethan had some strong races and gained tremendous experience over two days of sailing as well.
The regatta scheduled in Ft. Pierce next weekend has been cancelled so the Fall edition of the Florida East Coast Series is complete. The final results have not been tabulated but it seems certain that Ben won the o’pen skiff fleet. Congratulations to him and all of the sailors that participated.
Next weekend will be our final sailing of the semester. The Mercury, Gemini, Apollo and Artemis groups will resume on January 11. The Dolphins will start up on Jan 13. Registration forms will be sent shortly but if you plan to sail next semester (and I hope everyone does) please let us know so we can plan accordingly. We currently are near capacity and there is additional interest so if you plan to sail let me know ASAP.
